A December to Remember

A December to Remember – that’s how I’m feeling about December 2022.

For starters, although some of our residents are still working on getting back into their homes, many of our residents actually have halls to deck this holiday season!Staying out of the cone of uncertainty for the 2022 hurricane season allowed us to move right into the Christmas Season. For that reason alone, this December will be one to remember for many families around the parish.

This month will also certainly be one that many of our high school fans and players will remember for years to come. The St. Charles Catholic Comets defended their championship title to become back-to-back state champs, and Destrehan High and Lutcher High joined in the championship ranks this year as well. The hard work and determination put in by all of the coaches and players played out beautifully in the Superdome, giving thousands of people a moment to never forget.

There are other priceless memories being made all across the parish this month. The Parks & Recreation Department recently kicked off this year’s basketball season with a new partnership with the Jr. NBA program. Launch day featured special appearances by the PelSquad and Pierre the Pelican, and there were countless smiles and tons of excitement from players as the games got underway. Local senior citizens also had their turn to make memories at the parish’s first-ever Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon.

And then as always there will be the blazing bonfires and holiday cheer that Christmas Eve brings. December 24th in the River Region is always a memorable time as the bonfires light the way for Papa Noel and family and friends gather to celebrate.

I hope that wherever you are, whoever you’re with, and whatever you’re doing that this December will bring you many moments to treasure and remember forever.
