On June 24, 2025, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced recent arrests involving two individuals with outstanding warrants related to incidents in previous years.
Edgar Cortez, a 38-year-old male, was transferred from the Lafourche Parish Correctional Center to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center (NCCC) due to an outstanding warrant stemming from a 2023 incident in Montz. Cortez faces charges of simple criminal damage to property and theft. According to the sheriff’s office, “Cortez was transported to the NCCC from the Lafourche Parish Correctional Center for an outstanding warrant from an incident in 2023, in Montz. He was booked accordingly.”
Alvin Thomas III, a 22-year-old male, was also taken into custody on June 23 after being moved from Jefferson Parish Correctional Center to NCCC. Thomas faces multiple charges connected to separate incidents that occurred in Luling during November 2024 and throughout that year. The first set of charges includes telephone communications-improper language-harassment: “Thomas was transported from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center to the NCCC for an outstanding warrant from an incident in November 2024, in Luling. He was booked accordingly.”
In addition, Thomas is charged with battery of a dating partner-minor injury, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities related to another incident: “The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office reports Thomas was transported from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center to the NCCC for an outstanding warrant from an incident in 2024, in Luling. He was booked accordingly.”
