The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on March 11 that it is investigating two separate incidents involving extortion and harassing phone calls in the parish.

These cases are important as they highlight ongoing concerns about personal safety and online interactions within the community.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a male resident reported being targeted in an extortion attempt after chatting with a female on a social media platform. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Pelican Street, Destrehan, on March 7. The female allegedly demanded money from him following their conversation.

In another case, a male resident in the 100 block of Easy Street, Des Allemands, reported receiving threatening phone calls on March 10. Details about the nature of these threats were not disclosed by authorities.

The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information about either incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500.00.

These incidents underscore the importance of vigilance when interacting online or responding to unsolicited communications. The Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and reminds them that anonymity is protected when providing tips.
