St. Charles Parish Education: 20 American Indian students were enrolled in schools in 2023-24 school year

There were 20 American Indian students enrolled in St. Charles Parish schools in the 2023-24 school year, 25.9% less than the previous year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Data showed that St. Charles Parish welcomed 8,991 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.2% of the student body to be the second least represented ethnicity in the parish.

Among the 15 schools within the parish, Destrehan High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2023-24 school year, with a total of five students.

Louisiana's educational performance is among the lowest in the nation, according to a WalletHub analysis. The state was ranked 47th overall, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
